The designation "FRQS research group" is reserved for groups of investigators who work somewhere other than in a FRQS-funded research centre hosted by a university-affiliated healthcare institution. This funding program is intended for independent research investigators who already belong to a well funded geographic unit and who form a durable critical mass. FRQS research groups are usually already recognized as research centres by their host institutions and receive funding from those institutions. Objectives -To encourage the creation of interdisciplinary health research groups in fields identified by the FRQS as priorities -To encourage the development of centres of excellence on university campuses and in healthcare institutions located outside major centres, by providing a durable structure and optimal conditions for growth -To foster synergy among research investigators of recognized excellence and productivity in their fields -To provide for the stability of those critical masses of investigators -To tap the health research potential and expertise that exists outside major centres -To foster synergy among the four areas of health research identified by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), i.e., basic, clinical, population health and health services Criteria -An agenda focused on a specific theme, including at least two of the four CIHR research areas -An independent management structure -A strategic research development plan |
