Eligible applicants

-Applicants with a professional university degree in healthcare and a valid licence to practise in Québec.

-Canadian citizens or permanent residents domiciled in Québec (as defined in the Common Rules and Regulations, art. 1.1) as of the date the fellowship becomes effective, or by latest June 30, 2006

Not eligible : incumbents of a university position

Terms and conditions

-Must devote at least 75% of his/her time to the research project

-Must be supervised by an independent investigator (as defined in the Common Rules and Regulations, art. 1.2)

Applicant

-Official transcripts, or certified copies of the originals, for all university courses taken, whether completed or not (except for renewal applications)

-Copies of award notices received, other than FRSQ awards, during the past four years

-Confirmations from publishers regarding manuscripts submitted and agreement to publish

-Applicants training abroad may receive additional funding (see Other sources of income) if the application is accompanied by a letter from the director of a Québec research centre or university department stating that the applicant will be offered a position upon his/her return from training abroad.

-Proof of membership in a professional corporation and of licence to practise in Québec, submitted by June 30, 2006, and each subsequent year, for the duration of the award

-Certified copy of permanent resident card, if applicable, submitted by June 30, 2006

Applicants may update the status of publications presented at the time of application up to December 5, 2005.

Applicant will receive e-mail confirmation of receipt of application in December.

Professional Postgraduate Training (Fellowship)

Choice of training location

Must be an internationally-recognized training environment (Canada or other countries)

Change of training location

Fellows wishing to change their training location must send the FRSQ a written request stating the reasons for the change and describing the new research project.

The new research supervisor must

-provide the FRSQ with written agreement to supervise the Fellow

-send the FRSQ a paper copy of his/her Common Canadian CV (full CV)

Professional Postgraduate Training (Fellowship)

Effective starting date

Between April 1 and September 30, 2006.

Duration

2 years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year

Parental leave

Fellows are entitled to 6 months of paid parental leave (maternity, paternity or adoption), in which case the duration of the fellowship will be extended by 6 months. If both parents are Fellows, only one of them is entitled to paid parental leave.

An applicant who wishes to take parental leave must have held the award for at least 4 months, unless he or she is already receiving an award from the FRSQ.

Fellows shall give the FRSQ written notice of their intention to take parental leave and shall send a copy of this letter to their research supervisor.

Sick leave

The awardee may defer the award in case of serious illness (his or her own or the illness of a close family member) upon presentation of a medical certificate that includes the precise length of leave prescribed by the physician. Payments will be suspended during that period.

Amount

$25 024 - $39 323 $/year, depending on the year the professional degree was earned.

Administration

The award is paid in instalments at the Fellow’s training location.

Professional Postgraduate Training (Fellowship)

Authorized paid work

A Fellow may supplement his/her income through professional activities, provided that he/she devotes at least 75% of his/her time to research or research training and that the source of the income is not a FRSQ grant.

Institution or supervisor

The Fellow may accept additional funding from the institution or his/her research supervisor.

Travel expenses

The researcher may be entitled to reimbursement of travel costs – one return ticket in economy class – upon presentation of supporting documents.

Cost-of-living increment

A Fellow who trains abroad may be eligible for a cost-of-living increment.

The FRSQ will calculate that increment, which cannot exceed 50% of the amount of the award.

To be eligible, the Fellow must include with the application a letter from the director of a Québec research centre or university department stating that he/she will be offered a position upon his/her return from training abroad.

Professional Postgraduate Training (Fellowship)

In accepting this award, the Fellow agrees to observe the Common Rules and Regulations, as well as the terms and conditions stipulated in the Program Description.

The award will be revoked if the Fellow fails to observe these rules.

The Fellow must notify the FRSQ of his/her acceptance of the award within 30 days of receiving the offer.

Failure to give notice of acceptance will be regarded as refusal of the fellowship.

The research supervisor agrees to oversee the Fellow's work and to provide the material and financial resources required for the research project.
