Eligible applicants

-senior researcher, recruited from outside Québec. The Chairholder must have a solid research record in nursing care and evaluative research in the field of nursing.

-nurse with a valid license to practice from the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec or who has the qualifications for a license to practice

-Researcher who has already established a research program or has had a senior managerial position outside Québec.

Terms and conditions

-have a permanent or tenure-track position at McGill University or Université de Montréal and be affiliated with another university

-have a clinical affiliation with access to a defined patient population

-Must hold grants form public agencies

-Must devote at least 80% of his or her professional activities to research

Objectives

-create new knowledge in response to healthcare community needs in terms of innovative interventions in nursing and facilitate the establishment of these new practices within the healthcare community

-develop and lead a research team in nursing care development and evaluation. The team must be dynamic, innovative and highly competitive at the national and international level

-make this team part of GRISIM, thereby fostering the exchange, transfer and implementation of new knowledge on innovative and advanced nursing care

-contribute to instituting a rigorous academic structure within hospital centres and university-affiliated hospital centres (UHCs, AUHCs), institutes, and community health and social services centres (CSSSs) in order to carry out new research projects in the field within the purview of the Chair, evaluate them, and implement them subsequently

-exercise leadership and assume the role of scientific mentor with decision makers and other stakeholders in evaluating and establishing new nursing care practices in order to develop a culture of scientific evaluation within healthcare administrations

-as part of GRISIM, build innovative research capability in the field of new nursing care, its evaluation and its implementation by establishing a program for the training of highly qualified personnel. This program could lead to university degrees (Master's and Doctorate) or offer postdoctoral training to Ph.D. or professional diploma holders

-share the Chair’s research results with other healthcare stakeholders, with a view to exchanging and transferring knowledge that will benefit the scientific community, the healthcare network, and end-users and that will contribute to generating innovative ideas in the field

Condition

The Chair will be established according to the affiliated university's Research Chair standards and will have a management committee composed of the promoters of the Chair (FRSQ, Newton Foundation, the two universities, and the healthcare environments concerned), as well as a scientific advisory committee composed of experts in the field of nursing care evaluation.

The FRSQ and the milieus concerned will work together to choose the members of these committees.

Salary

Salary bonus of $50,000 a year

The main university of affiliation is expected to cover the Chairholder’s salary based on his or her university standing. The FRSQ and the Newton Foundation will contribute an additional $50,000.

Allocation for the Chair research activities

Grant of $100,000 a year

In addition to the basic grant of $100,000 a year, the Chair will receive a supplementary contribution to support its activities from the universities and the healthcare environments in which the Chair will operate. This contribution could be financial or involve the reassignment of qualified personnel to the development, evaluation or implementation of innovative nursing care practices. Only costs directly related to research and training are authorized.

Concurrent funding

The Chair’s salary cannot be complemented by other contributions from the public sector (i.e. university salary, awards from funding agencies or charitable foundations).

Process

All applications will be evaluated by experts renown for their knowledge in the field of evaluative research.

Critères

-ability to conduct advanced research in innovative nursing care in a multidisciplinary environment, to evaluate it, and to translate it into lasting changes in healthcare environments

-excellent scientific productivity: original research publications and pertinent reports

-leadership and international influence or potential for development in the field

-ability to get involved in training activities and knowledge transfer

In accepting this award, the applicant agrees to observe the Common Rules and Regulations as well as the terms and conditions stipulated in this program.

The award will be revoked if the applicant fails to observe these rules.

The applicant must notify the FRSQ of his or her acceptance of the award within 30 days of receiving the offer.

Failure to give notice of acceptance will be regarded by the FRSQ as refusal of the award.

Confirmation of a university title and a position

The university agrees to:

-offer the Chairholder a university title upon his or her nomination as research Chairholder

-give the Chairholder a permanent position at full pay.
