Introduction to Health Sciences Research: Summer Program for Students in Medicine and Health Sciences

This program is designed to stimulate an interest in research on the part of students enrolled in a university undergraduate program, in medicine or another health science, by offering them a summer study program carried out in a laboratory environment.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Eligible applicants

-Students enrolled in an undergraduate program at the faculty of medicine or in health sciences in a Québec university

Students must have completed at least one year of study but not the entire program.

-Canadian citizens or permanent residents domiciled in Québec (as defined in the Common Rules and Regulations, art. 1.1) for a minimum of one year

Terms and conditions

-Must be accepted by a research laboratory supervised by an independent investigator (as defined in the Common Rules and Regulations, art. 1.2)

-Must participate in a research project that

-can be carried out between May 1 and August 31, 2010

-involves a health theme related to the student's program of study

-promotes the development of intellectual and technical competencies

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Paper documents

Applicant

Students must register with the Office of the Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Medicine or, for students in other faculties, with the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research) at the university with which the laboratory is affiliated or where the training program takes place. This university need not be the one where the undergraduate student is enrolled. However, the host university is free to refuse applicants from other universities.

Associate deans or vice-principals

Associate deans and vice-principals are required to send the following documents to the FRSQ Program Officer:

- Names and addresses of successful applicants

- Title of applicants’ research projects

- Names of applicants’ research supervisors

Awardees must train in a Québec university or one of its affiliated health institutions.

-Determined by the university, based on duration of summer program

Universities with a faculty of medicine should earmark a certain percentage of the awards for medical students. The other awards (all faculties) will be allocated in proportion to the number of undergraduate students enrolled in health sciences.

Applicants are selected by the universities who also review their work-term report.

AWARDEE'S AGREEMENT

 

In accepting this award, the awardee agrees to observe the Common Rules and Regulations, the Policy regarding open access to published research outputs as well as the terms and conditions stipulated in this Program Description.

The awardee agrees to provide the university with a progress report.
